Equine Assisted Psychotherapy Program

EAP with ADHD Children

Indicators of Attention Deficit Disorders:

Common signs are short attention span, easy distractibility, emotional instability, impulsiveness and moderate to severe hyperactivity. Students who suffer from this disorder will find it difficult to learn.

Treatment:

EAP with ADHD children seeks to promote self-control and the internalization of rules and structure, so that the client learns to modulate their own behavior. In EAP with ADHD, the therapist and instructor vary the pace of the session, and introduce activities which enhance impulse control, and the ability to delay gratification. Relaxation and meditation techniques help the client gain a sense of control, calm and to self soothe his/her mind and body. This structured approach improves self-esteem and focusing skills, which help the student develop the social skills necessary for success in school and peer relationships.
